Knitspiration - your south bay knitting guild
Knitspiration of Silicon Valley is a TKGA-affiliated knitting guild for Santa Clara County in the SF Bay area. Our goal is support and encourage one another towards excellence in knitting through education, group discussion, and sharing.
What is a guild?
- a monthly meeting with planned topics related to knitting and fiber arts
- a supportive group of knitters who can cheer you on while you try new skills
- a good place to meet knitters interested in the TKGA Master Knitter program
- a great place to get started teaching about knitting
NEW MEETING TIME: Our guild meets from 7:00 - 8:30 on the second Thursday every month in the Yarn Dog Annex in Los Gatos, CA.
All knitters are welcome at our monthly meetings. If you decide to join, membership costs a mere $12/year which is used to pay our guest instructors.
Announcing the 2010 Colorwork Series

2010 Meeting schedule
- March 11, 2010
- Thinking in two colors - double knitting
- To begin our colorwork series (and our new, later time slot!), Amy will be discussing how to choose colors and teaching the technique of double knitting. This technique produces a reversible fabric with stockinette on both sides. We will be using two colors to knit a pot holder featuring a variation of the light bulb motif from the t-shirt stenciling workshop last winter.
- Materials: Please bring 2 colors of a smooth worsted weight yarn and size 6 US needles.
- Amy Klimt
- April 8, 2010
- Fair Isle Pulse Wamers - an introduction to stranded knitting
- With a great class project to keep us interested, Thea will introduce stranded knitting, including how to hold the yarn, catching colors on long runs and thoughts about color interaction.
- Thea Gray, San Francisco knitting instructor
- May 13, 2010
- Shadow knitting - now you see it, now you don't
- The Fiber Fiend, Margit Sage, will show us how to read (and create!) shadow knitting charts and work shadow or "illusion" knitting - a great way to hide a secret message in your knitting.
- You may have seen Margit's patterns in such publications as the Twist Collective, Knitting Daily, and Yarn Forward, as well as at FiberFiend.com
- June 10, 2010
- Color in knitting
- Have you ever knit up a beautiful pattern in colors that just didn't work? Come find out why, as we learn the basics of color theory and how it applies to knitting. This lesson will help you choose just the right colors for your next project.
- Nathania Apple, knitwear designer and yarn connisseur
- July 8, 2010
- Digital photography for knitters
- After four months of color work, we'll all be ready to learn how to take the best possible photos of color knitting with our point & shoot digital cameras
- Bill Walker, wildlife and knitting photographer
- August 12, 2010
- Norwegian purl for two-color ribbing
- Anyone who knits continental has made their own peace with the purl stitch. Some 'thumb' the purl, some have worked out the best tip angle, some use a helper finger. The Norwegian purl is a completely different apporach to manipulating the yarn for the purl stitch - one that makes shifting from knit to purl amazingly easy. Jasmine will show us how. Knowledge of the Continental/picking style of knitting is needed for this lesson.
- Knitspiration member Jasmine Wu
- September 9, 2010
